STEPUP!

A Simple Guide to Spiritual Parenthood and Discipleship

STEPUP! is about the similarity between being a parent and being a disciple of Christ.  The steps of childhood and the stages of discipleship are close to the same.  The processes of parenthood and leading others as disciples are patterned by God the Father, demonstrated by Jesus with the very first disciples and are embedded in our hearts as parents.  We need to recognize these steps for our own growth and for those we are called to lead to a deeper relationship with God.

STEPUP!  A Simple Guide to Spiritual Parenthood and Discipleship has received the Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur from the Diocese of Knoxville.

Hello Dennis, thank you for the copy of your new book. With your permission I’ll pass it along to several of the men at church.  I notice the return address is Louisville.  I thought you were a Knoxvillian!!!

The book reminded in many ways of our discussions at OLPH.  Understanding influencers, finding mentors, making disciples, the meaning of prayer. Your explanations in the book are clear and concise, a gift for those living busy lives.

Dennis Daniel has simplified the often-misunderstood path of discipleship in STEP UP: A Simple Guide to Spiritual Parenthood. He has gifted his reader with a practical crosswalk from the natural realities of childhood and the instincts of parenthood to their supernatural realities. This book is a key to unlocking the graces of both becoming and being a true disciple of Christ.

What factors deter men from joining men’s ministries? What causes successful ministries to plateau? STEPUP addresses these issues by looking to Jesus, who spent three years discipling before commissioning them to make disciples, focusing first on the heart.  Today we can use these practical parenting concepts to bring more people closer to Christ and His Church.

“Though STEPUP is not that long it is filled with plain-spoken real-life incidents and lessons learned.  It provides practical examples of what a Catholic Christian person is like; however, there is no condemnation of inadequacies and failures, only encouraging words.

Each chapter is broken into such brief sub-sections that even a busy person can find time to read one a day.  The Step Up Snippets at the end of each sub-section summarize what has been read.  I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to improve their way of following Jesus but doesn’t think they have the time to devote to a Christian “self-improvement” book.”

“I wish our church had STEP UP when we started discussing discipleship a few years ago. It would have made the learning curve much easier.”
